Unemployment is continue to be a threat to all countries of the world from developed to those not yet take strategic centre stages of being developing.Why unemploment is a social problem all over the world? What holistic approaches needed to curb unemployment now? And what ways can individuals plan new ways to get self employed using the advances of internet technology?These questions can only be answered as we discuss the problem of being unemployed.
According to the figures issued in Awake!july (2008) unemployment in USA 8 924 000,Spain 2 590 000 and Japan 2 650 000 .These are the people not employed in the so-called developed countries of the world. Now think of the figures in developing countries. In Zimbabwe official figures shows that 80% of the labour -force is out of work and in some developing countries the average rate of unemployment is around 65%.In addition to
these figures mentioned above unemployment is really a social problem in regards to the perspective of functionalists,conflicts and interactionists which we shall not going to states in details.
One of the great father of conflict perspective Karl Max in volume one (1984:49) states that labour is use of value and is the pivot which is a clear comprehension of political economy turns. That is the major reason why everyone need to get employed inorder to attains value of resources necessary for living and make his mind occupied for excitement ,satisfication or exercising.
These wishes are then challenged by the natural systems of the way our society operates. In our societies there are two distinct classes of people ,the employers who own means of production and the social wealth and the workers who are deprived for means of production. These employers engages in production for the sake of profit. They invest a sum of money inorder to get more money. When they establish a business employers has the business idea ,premises,machinery ,equipment ,raw materials and other means of production. Then hires workers for their labour-power or capacity to work ,as are useful to make products valued to get more money. However for a worker to work there is need for basic needs such as food ,clothes and housing which has its own value and now determines the value of labour.
Since employers' mission are to make profits amid challenges of competiting products,investment in new technical sophisticated machinery that produces more products within a short pace of time and the demand of well trained ,educated labour force to operate these machines. At the same time the labour power as a commodity is not consumed like products ,for instance like footwear,food,vehicles etc which are consumed ,but labour commodity is a process used to produce more value.
Without option the employer has to cut human labour and employ the use of machinery for massive product production to meet the high demand as it increased sales to make profit by use of one hired labourer. The use of machinery as you can now see save lighter human labour and increases production at a low cost. Therefore machinery intensify exploitation and increase unemployment.
Loss of job by the advent of machinery creates anxiety to many people now ,because they don't know how are they can re-employed again. They also wonders about when the situation turns to their favour to get employment and have access to the valuable resources for their survival.
This world according to the laws of political supremacy is under the powerful authority of those who own the means of production and the social wealth .Now from this look of things who then can mobilised these confused unemployed workers to fight for their employment. Definitely no one except the politicians who campaign using great lies to capture the minds of the gullibles. Unemployment as a social problem is not immediately possible for holistic approach.
The fear of those unemployed is becoming a reality ,because the needs for their survival is hardly to comeby. For a person to survive is expected to earn atleast a one USD /day which means the large part of the families is risked to get basic resources for their survival anymore.
Whilst I thought people can die because of poverty obviously from being unemployed . I realised that a deprived mind seeks any possible opportunity for capitalisation. Now people are self employed than before. Rather than loitering around well established premises looking for job. One can start own business at own backyard.
China which is now ranked second powerful in the world economy ,but its economy is powered by small businesses created by zealous citizens who do not want to succumbed by dirties of being unemployed. Philiphines ,Thailand,South Africa and India the so called second world countries created the BPO and other outsourcing centres for its citizens to use the power of internet to work at home on various freelancing work which make their citizens employed and generate foreign currency.
In Zimbabwe small businesses are growing at a good pace in the areas of woodwork,agriculture,retailing,mining and so on.
If you are unemployed don't wait for the government to create employment for you, use your internet working as afreelancer at home . Unemployement is not a problem only if people realised that for every challenge there is always an opportunity.
