Circumsion is the practice which dates back in the ancient times.For example Egyptians practiced it. Jewish race separates itself from other tribes who were not circumcised and regarded them as unclean races(Genesis 17:11).
The research done in those societies where male circumcision is a compulsory againt societies where circumcision is not practiced ,proved that AIDS & HIV is spreading faster none circumcision practiced societies. Infact a man from Senegal with four wives is less risky of spreading and contracting the virus than a man from Zimbabwe with same equal number of wives .HIV & AIDS in circumcised societies is 60% less than those in not circumcised societies.
Circumcision according to some written records began by Abrahama the founding pillar of the three major world religions Islam ,Judaism and Christianity.Not as a health thing but to indicate that this man belongs to the Jews descendants.
Abrahama privilidged and entrusted with God 's pronouncements These days the other two religions Judaism and Islam are still making it a compulsory for its followers to get circumcised as a religious command not necessarily on hygienic health perspective. Christianity regards it as a voluntary and not a must to be circumcised because they believed being circumcised or uncircumcised is an individual moral obligation not a religious demand. Above all according to christians all people are equal before God (1Corinthians 7:18-20,Romans 3:1-2)
Besides religious practices so many societies can make it compulsory for the young boys turning age range from 10 - 25 years old to go to their secret designated places and get circumcised. In South Africa the Xhosa held ceremonies to welcome the children who now attains full manhood by killing a bull in honour of their great secrifices to be boldly get circumcised. In Zimbabwe the Varemba people practice this culture of circumcision to their sons when turning to manhood.
If you don't circumcised according to their cultural rules you don't perform activities like killing an animal for meat and other important activites done by men within their culture. Those who practise this culture of circumcision their traces of the history linked to be related to Abraham's family and then migrated southwards in African continent. The Varemba people migrated using the popular drum known as ngoma lungundu which they used to show direction and play melodic sounds.

However most of the societies who practised circumcision believed that it can reduce masturbation,bedwetting and improves sexual satisfaction both to the man and his wife.
Some studies done to find more information about the role and nature of the foreskin and its consequences after get circumcised led to anti-circumcision in some quotas of the communities.For the past 50 years after the declaration of universal human rights.There has been a big decline in the number of circumcisions without including those religions which make it a must.People started to have knowledge about their rights and can easily migrate to other areas if they don't want their sons to get circumcised.
Doctors recognised the nature of the foreskin to be adherent to the foreskin for about nine months to three years old. Circumcision can only be avoided on the medical reasons when the foreskin is abnormally tightened and inflamation around the penis. Some men are still fearing to get into circumcision operations as they fear the likelihood of harm than the conjectural of leaving without being circumcised. Above all circumcision is still regarded as taboo in some societies. In most societies now circumcision is done painlessly,hygienically,professionally and for very few minutes by trained medical doctors.
In Zimbabwe a society which used not support circumcision culturally, the government initiated a compaign in conjuction which other donor agencies and designated five hospitals in Harare two designated places, at Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council and Manyame, Karanda hospital in Mt Darwin,Mutare and Bulawayo to carry circumcision operation as way of reducing the HIV and AIDS.Circumcision is found to give protection against sexually transmitted diseases during and after sexual pleasure. Since it should be borne in mind that circumcision doesn't completely eliminate the risk of STIs infection,therefore they are compaigning this method together with other methods like abstinence,condom use and faithful to one partner.
